Then Importance Of Having Fun

Two cows are hanging out in a field, one cow says to the other cow, “Hey, have you heard about this mad cow thing going around, seems like everybodies gettin it.”

The other cow looks at him and says, “What do I care, I’m a helicopter.”

Do you know any jokes? Do you have a favorite joke that you can tell someone right now? Do you like jokes? Do you think life is serious and there is a place and a time for joking around? Do you think, “Life is serious. There’s so much to do. We need to accomplish things, we need to build things, we need to take care of things. We need to educate people, we need to help people, we need to feed people.” How much fun do you have doing your job? How much fun do you have with your partner, your kids, your friends? Do you have enough fun in your life? Here’s the good news and the bad news, Right now is the only time that will ever exist and if you ain’t having fun Right Now, what are you waiting for?

What’s the point of anything? Sounds like a ridiculous philosophical question that could be viewed as a complete waste of time but the more we ask that question, the more surprises we find. Many of us get so wrapped in surviving that we forget our connection to the divine, to the heavens, to the spirit, to whatever you want to call the part of life that is greater than ourselves. We all come from the same place physically, a uterus, and we all end up in the same place physically, either six feet under or burned to ashes. Or if we’re royalty embalmed, mummified or possibly frozen. What happens in the middle is the crap shoot and how much fun we have along the ride is pretty much up to us. Even if we’ve had a rough time of it, we can still choose to laugh about the journey. That is a conscious choice that we all get to make and I’m always amazed that everyone wouldn’t choose laughing and having fun over being serious about everything and constantly finding things to complain about. There will always be things to complain or laugh about, we decide. People that complain all the time can be extremely taxing on the nervous system and our nervous system is responsible for most functions of our body and mind. When people laugh and joke around, our body feels more relaxed which allows our organs to function better. When our mind feels relaxed, we feel less stress which makes our bodily functions operate more smoothly. All the research is in, stress kills. It’s pretty simple. Just relax and enjoy. Why wait?

I know, I know, your job sucks, your boyfriend’s a jerk, your girlfriend is sick, your daughter is failing school, your husband lost his job, your mom just broke her hip, your favorite teacher is taking a sabbatical, your ulcer is acting up and on and on and on. The author M. Scott Peck said it best in the opening line of his great book The Road Less Traveled; Life is difficult, full stop! Life is hard, life is rough, yes it is and the crazy thing is the more we joke about it and laugh about it the BETTER it FEELS. So lighten up and do something crazy today like go grocery shopping in your ball gown, go to the car wash and dance around the lobby while your car is getting shined, make a collage of your favorite planets!! RELAX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
